Passport Surrender of Old Indian Passports

Presently the law states that one has to give up their Indian citizenship as soon as they get a foreign citizenship.Considering an example,if you apply for a visa to visa India ,the official premises may ask  for the proof of your passport.The cost of getting a passport surrender certificate at present is US $175/-

Those citizens who has acquired their foreign citizenship before 31st may 2010,an have cancelled the stamp on their Indian passport,then acquiring of the surrender certificate is not necessary.Those citizens who has not cancelled their Indian citizenship should acquire the surrender certificate with a fee of US $20.

Citizens who have acquired their foreign citizenship before 31st may 2010 may fall into one of the categories:-

(i)Their passport was cancelled by the Indian officer and they have a cancelled stamp on their last Indian passport.

(ii)They acquired a foreign passport before 31st may and they did not have a canceled stamp.

(iii)They acquired their foreign passport before 10 years ago and they lost their Indian passport.
